(dirty) hair secrets revealed

You guys asked, and asked some more, so here it is...

All.The.(Dirty)Hair.Details.

First and foremost, I want to say thank you for all the kind comments! Writing this post, if I can help one person I'm doing what I envisioned with this blog. For that I'm forever grateful.

I'm answering the most frequently asked questions below. If your question hasn't been answered, I'll leave contact information at the bottom of this post and gladly assist you in any way possible.

So let's discuss...Q & A

Where do I go?
Hair Success in Fargo, this is my (not so) hidden gem. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming, helpful, and beautiful inside and out. The sweetest group! And they have every service imaginable; nails, skin, hair, spa, etc. So, if you haven't been here, I highly suggest checking it out. Walking in, you'll never want to leave.

Who is my stylist?
My (hilarious) dear friend, Laura (Kirkeby) Bright, she's a newlywed [update your b-cards, bebe]! She is the secret behind it all, and the secret is now out! She has been doing hair for 10+ years, and is nothing less than ahhh-mazing. When it comes to cut, color, and all things in between, she asks the right questions to get your hair exactly where you want it to be. I have sent several friends to her, they can also attest to her hair abilities. And...her (blonde) hair is always on point. Need I say more?

What color combination does she use on your hair?
This question is the hair question I fear most...is that a thing? It sounds so silly, but I honestly know nothing about the system of coloring. So if you have questions on this, I'd suggest reaching out to Laura. To me, this just speaks to how great Laura's passion for hair is.

Does she use a toner?
Yes, we have done grey and we have done purple. Purple is my favorite.

What kind of extensions do you have?
My hair is all my own, so no extensions. I used them years ago though, and purchased the real human hair at Sally's. I know that Hair Success also sells extensions, and Laura puts them in. If I got them today, I would personally go this route.

What are my personal secrets?
Prepare to be slightly grossed out...you'll know me on a whole new level if you continue reading.

I wash my hair very rarely, approximately once a week...and I suggest this to everyone! Your hair will get over the greasiness and adjust to your wash cycle, I promise! Throw it up during the adjustment phase, and avoid touching it. So worth it!

Laura is going to kill me for this one..but I'm going to tell you anyways! I rarely trim my hair, so rarely she typically has to force me to trim it. I have strong love for split ends, something about looking unkept. Sorry Laura!

My other secret, I don't use products. Once in a blue moon, we are talking a handful of times in a year, I will use Bed Head (the OG-silver can) hair spray.

Are you grossed out yet? I warned you...

I don't blow dry my hair, unless I absolutely need to. This happens a handful of times throughout the year. Typically I wash it at night and let it air dry.

One more...if you feel like it's getting greasy, baby powder or dry shampoo. I typically go for baby powder if I need it. But, I typically stand by my no products rule.

The photos below show the process of the color, from start to finish!

I should also touch on a hair tutorial and my day to day routine. If that's something you would really like to see, let us know! Comment here or reach out to us on Instagram @flirtingwithforks

Benched

Move over solid tees, you're benched!

Hellllo stripes!

To say stripes make me happy is an understatement...also, add grey with a denim jacket to the mix and...swoooon

The collar on this denim jacket too, an instant love affair. I have an attraction to all things a bit odd, different, unique, whatever you'd like to call it. But then basics, they're necessary too.

...I may have just described more than my wardrobe, you guys...

Has anyone else hit that winter rut? Shorts, dresses, sandals, fedoras, patios...all things Summer are calling. Being outside, doing this shoot it was cold, really cold. I think Margo and I were both dreaming of sunshine and warmth.

Also, the clothing in each shoot is linked at the bottom, if it's no longer available similar items are listed.

If there's anything specific you'd like to see, let us know! I have received lots of hair inquiries so watch for our post on that soon. And truly, thank you for stopping by and your continued support, it means more than you know.

Valentines (ILY) Day

Some love this day, some hate this day, we like to consider ourselves some where in the middle. Expressing your; love, like, admiration, etc., should be done regularly, not just because of a special holiday. However, we will gladly hit up every candy aisle, eat heart shape pizza, and love a little louder, because of this day.

We compiled a singles guide, and couples guide below for those of you scrambling for ideas.

All the Single Ladies!
  • Treat your self to a massage
  • Or...a full spa package. You deserve it!
  • Netflix and order pizza, because who does love this idea?
  • Grab all your single pals and hit happy hour
  • Get your mani and/or pedi on
  • Shopping!! ...need we say more?
For the Couples!
  • Massages or couples massage, depending on your comfort level with each other
  • Stay in and cook a meal together (we suggest this if it's not the norm for you)
  • Hit up a local winery or brewery
  • Hop in the car, drive randomly, and pick dinner somewhere you've never been
  • Do things backwards-go out for breakfast
  • Have a picnic...even in your living room.

This post is all about a versatile outfit for this special day. We chose to veer away from the standard red/pink, and go black with a feminine lace turtleneck. And white, winter whites are swoon worthy. Have you tried this yet?

Blooper: This outfit was intended to be worn with black heels (as well) but Whitney failed to bring them to the shoot. So, if you're going for a similar look we suggest heels too!

What are your plans for Valentines Day?

Happy L<3VE day, friends!
Much Love!!

Lady in Red

Trudging through the snow with the crisp air hitting my face, I look up to see birds soaring above. Stopping me in my tracks, fairly certain my hands are numb, but I don't care. I wonder what they're saying to each other? Why do birds speak in such an annoying tone? I've never really cared for them, much. But I stood there, admiring their grace and playfulness. The Notebook popped into my head. Remember when Noah said "if you're a bird, I'm a bird"...What exactly did he mean by that, anyways?

This jacket, seriously, this jacket. It speaks for itself; the color, texture, length, button placement. All of it. Pure joy.

We wanted to do an outdoor shoot, and this one was so worth freezing for. We picked one of the coldest days...but, don't regret a second of it.

Caffeine Highs

Fun fact: walking into a coffee shop creates instant happiness. Finding ourselves in such a warm, cozy place, with coffee, definitely puts a smile on our faces...there's no shame in our game! We happen to be downtown a lot, so Urban seems to be where we find ourselves wondering back to more often than not. And, we have zero complaints about that.

Knee rips, ugh, they make us melt. For some reason they just elevate your denim, and add that extra oomph. To avoid the knees tearing too much we always rip them all the way to each side, on both legs. This prevents the hole from tearing up or down. Unless, you like the knee rips large and natural. Either way, we love them!

And fringe...clothes, home decor, shoes, handbags, all of it! We can't get enough.
