November Morning

With my sleepy eyes barely open, I stumble towards the closet. Sitting on my bedroom floor, freezing, I think to myself 6AM is just too early. Curling my legs closer to my chest, I take a sip of coffee. Sitting there for a few minutes taking it all in; the clothes, the coffee, the November morning, I allow myself to get lost in thought. It's cooler outside now, the trees have shed their leaves, dark is Nature's new normal, and yet it's all more beautiful than it has ever been. Realizing that just like Nature the only constant in life is change, I reach for my coffee and close my eyes. I cannot help but admire Mother Nature and her zest for life.Turning my head my phone reads 6:15, exhaling as I stand up, I smile to myself knowing today is already pretty incredible.

Does anyone else have these mornings? Below is a perfect outfit for these kind of mornings. Vests are a great piece for layering over anything.

Holiday Shopping

Happy Turkey Day!

We hope you're all enjoying your Thanksgiving with loved ones, and of course eating lots!

After Thanksgiving comes Black Friday, followed by Small Business Saturday...Cyber Monday...you get the idea. Knowing how to navigate all of the 'sales' can be a challenge in more ways than one.

The more we discuss these Holiday shopping days, the more we pick up on the fact that you either seem to love or hate them.

Below we have some tips and suggestions to help navigate the Holiday shopping chaos, and have some fun in the mix of it.

Holiday Shopping Guide
  1. If you decide to brave the Black Friday sales brick and mortar style, have an idea of what you're going for before you go. This way you won't find yourself over spending due to impulse buying.
  2. Another way to prevent impulse buys is to strictly bring cash...ahh the challenge.
  3. The stores are set up the way they are for a reason; lip gloss, jewelry, sunglasses, etc. are all near the checkouts for a reason. Buy 1 get 1 50% off when you don't NEED it, isn't a deal.
  4. Black Friday sales are also online...some items are strictly in store & some strictly online. Regardless, it's wise to check. And let's be honest, sometimes it's just better to shop from the comfort of your own home...with wine!
  5. Utilize your phone, this can come in handy for price comparison.
  6. Check the ads...coupons! But, read the fine print, some places only apply certain coupons at certain times.
  7. Braving the sales can be fun, we promise... Grab some family, friends, Starbucks, and hit the road. (Maybe coffee should be first, because... priorities
  8. Black Friday isn't necessarily the best day to buy big ticket items, it's possible to find a better deal as Christmas approaches. Do your research.
  9. If we had to pick any of these days to shop, it's hands down Small Business Saturday...support the local shops!
  10. The sales start before Friday, so start shopping... now.

Do you have any shopping tips for us?

We would also like to say that we are truly thankful for your continued support with our blog! Please leave us comments below or on our Instagram page if there's specific items you'd like to see us style @flirtingwithforks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Back to Basics

Basics! Things like ; a fitted jacket, black skirt, tee shirts, structured bag, boots, jeans etc. These are your pieces that you have rotation, allowing you to pair them with anything. Or, all together.

The basics that are in this post are a few of Whitney's "go to" items, and pairing them together gives you so many outfit options. These pieces are great when you're traveling and trying to pack light, que the Holiday music.

When picking out an outfit, we typically select one piece we want to wear and work around that. The skirt was the starting piece in this post, and then we worked from there. The zipper detailing on the jacket and the skirt needed to be balanced, and a plain white tee did just that.

We also wanted to show this look slightly dressed up, and laid back.
1)Pairing it with boots and a plain black clutch for more of a classic, but slightly edgy look
2) Laid back with sneakers, a beanie, and different clutch.

Overall Thoughts

As we discussed in the last overall post, finding the perfect pair is a challenge. But, when you find a pair (or pairs) that fit, the hunt is completely worth it.

This post shows how to style them in a more laid back way. These are more relaxed fitting, but the detailing on them is their selling point. The rips in the knee were what instantly drew Whitney in...such a sucker for those! Add the belt loops, the large pocket on top, and there was no hesitation that they needed to be in the shopping bag.

These are perfect for errands, lounging, a day out on the town, etc... Converse, glasses, and a flannel add to the laid back vibe.

As the Seasons Change

The in between of seasons can be tough. In the mix of Summer dresses, Winter dresses, jackets, shorts, jeans...it's 30 degrees in the morning and 65 at 3pm, how are you supposed to dress?

Layering!

Dresses are such versatile pieces and make layering easy. This dress can be worn by itself and it's still amazing. But, adding a few things to it can make it look completely different...and, it's also warmer for the chilly mornings.
